2024 Jaguar I-Pace

Now that the number of EVs in the USA is steadily increasing, it is becoming harder and harder for seemingly good cars to stay competitive. The Jaguar I-Pace SUV has been one of the strongest models in the segment, even though it has competed with giants like the Tesla Model X, and although it was starting to feel left behind with limited updates over the years, its 'low' price tag has stood it in good stead. The 2024 I-Pace sets out to change that with a more significant makeover that includes sportier R-Dynamic styling and a state-of-the-art Pivi Pro infotainment system. It retains its 394-horsepower electric powertrain and smart handling, but if this wasn't enough to launch it into the lead, will a few shiny bits and bobs get the job done?

The MSRP of the new Jaguar I-Pace is just $72,000, which puts it in a good spot to keep Tesla on its toes, but newer EVs are starting to deliver similar levels of luxury and performance at the same cost or less. The stated figure does not include Jag's $1,275 destination charge or any additional administrative fees.

Our review of the Jaguar I-Pace has always been generous in the handling department and for good cause. It is an extremely capable driver, as you'd expect from the famed British brand, and now it has the type of aggressive styling that matches its personality. This includes a penchant for sliding into corners and launching out with instantaneous torque, though there is some understeer if you get overly enthusiastic. The steering is extremely accurate while still being easy to control and confidence-inspiring with a decent amount of feedback. The suspension is more than capable of soaking up mid-corner bumps, and whether traveling at low speed or cruising on the highway, it delivers a smooth ride that can match almost any luxury car out there. Excellent build quality ensures that very little wind or road noise makes its way into the cabin.

The 2024 Jaguar I-Pace needed a bit of an edge to keep up with newer entrants to the performance SUV segment, and it was decided that some edgier styling and more up-to-date infotainment software was the way to go. A larger battery with more than just 292 miles of range might have been a smarter move, but the I-Pace doesn't fall so far behind the competition that this is a deal breaker. It's definitely luxurious enough and extremely fun to drive, which is still enough of a rarity to make it extra appealing. Its time may be limited, but for now, the Jag electric SUV remains a solid choice in a fiercely competitive market, and it serves as an excellent teaser of what's to come as the automaker moves toward full electrification by 2025.

The R-Dynamic HSE is the only trim in the lineup for 2024, but you won't be experiencing any FOMO when you look at the specifications. It gets a long list of driver-assistance tech like blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control with steering assist. The updated infotainment is extremely attractive, too, as is the brand-new R-Dynamic styling. Still, we'd spring for the Driver Intelligence Pack, which adds Wi-Fi hotspot capability and a head-up display.
